PERSONALITY
FIRST MEMORY
A memory I can vividly remember in my life is one of the baptisms of my sister and I. Although likely that it isn’t my actual first memory, it is a memory I can remember in more detail than others. I would say I was about four years old while my younger sister was about three years old.
The song I chose to best identify my personality is “My Way” by Frank Sinatra. This song defines me in particular starting with the fact that I am a big Frank Sinatra fan. Not only am I a big Frank Sinatra fan, but I am also a fan of the Crooner's era.
My friends and family consider me to be somewhat of an “old soul” and over the years I’ve learned to embrace that old soul in me. I take inspiration from not only Sinatra but from others, the likes of Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Bing Crosby, Tony Bennett, and Andy Williams. There are things that I’ve learned from these men that simply cannot be taught. Things like class, mannerisms, humility and how to “walk it like you talk it.”
With regard to the song “My Way”, it is simple and straight to the point as far as the title is concerned. It's about a man being honest with himself and with full inclination to do things his own way without regrets and with purpose. This is how I try to live my life with character and certainty behind my decisions.
FIRST MEMORY
This memory in particular is most meaningful to me for many reasons; one reason being that I can remember seeing my younger sister actually get holy water poured on her forehead. Growing up, around the house there were always small objects used as decorations similar to souvenirs that always reminded me of my baptism. I feel this is why this memory in particular is still ingrained in my head today. I would remember times when I would watch old footage from that specific day as well many years ago.
Several aspects that I can envision from that day were both of us being dressed in all white. My sister with a white dress and me with a white tuxedo. I also remember my entire family being present for the events that took place. My family was a very large one and as times have passed the dynamic of my family has changed greatly. I can always look back towards this moment and think of how close-knit my family used to be.
Other envisions include all of us going back to the house and celebrating in our living room with white and pink balloons everywhere including the floor for my sister and I to roll around and play with. I find that my first memory relates to me in the sense that I may not be a very religious person in terms of practice.
However, I know God exists within me and I do believe in God. I also know that at times when I “stray away” from God, he always finds a way to find me. I’ve been in catholic school since elementary school all throughout high school and even in college. My baptism is just another example of that, it is where it all began.
